
RedHawks Take Sixth Straight Win, 7-5

New Orleans, La. - Anderson Hernandez extended a hitting streak to 28 games with a third inning RBI double, while a Chris Johnson leadoff home run in the eighth inning sent the Oklahoma City RedHawks (66-72) to a 7-5 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs (66-72) before 2,415 Tuesday night at Zephyr Field.
The win was Oklahoma City's sixth straight, the longest winning streak of 2011. The RedHawks are now in a tie for third place in the American Southern division with New Orleans, the first time OKC has been out of last place since April 11.
Hernandez belted an RBI double to deep left-centerfield in the third inning, extending the PCL's longest hitting streak of 2011 to 28 games. Hernandez was last hitless on August 1, and is now batting .390 (48x123) during the streak.
RedHawks reliever Sammy Gervacio (4-0) dealt one shutout inning for the winning decision. Zephyrs reliever Victor Garate (3-3) allowed three runs and five hits in two innings for the loss. Jose Valdez (7) saved the game with a scoreless ninth inning.
New Orleans opened the scoring in the second inning when Jorge Padilla belted a two-run home run to left field off RedHawks starter Dallas Keuchel for a 2-0 score.
The RedHawks grabbed the lead with a four-run third inning against Zephyrs starter Elih Villanueva. Hernandez and Brett Wallace delivered RBI doubles before a Drew Locke two-run home run opened a 4-2 lead.
The Zephyrs tied the game in the fifth inning when Chris Coghlan hit a two-run home run to right field for a 4-4 score. New Orleans then grabbed a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning when Alex Romero singled in Padilla.
Oklahoma City tied the score 6-6 with a seventh inning sacrifice fly from Brett Wallace off Garate. In the eighth inning Chris Johnson belted a leadoff home run, his second straight game with a home run and third in his last four games, opening a 6-5 lead. Later in the inning J.B. Shuck singled in Robinson Cancel with two out for a 7-5 score.
