Reno Aces News Release

RENO, Nev.-Cody Ransom's two-run home run in the fifth inning lifted Reno to a 5-2 win over Fresno Monday night at Aces Ballpark, propelling the Aces to their first division title and playoff berth in franchise history.

The win clinched at least a share of the Pacific North Division crown for Reno. In the event the Aces and the second-place Tacoma Rainiers finish with an identical record, Reno will advance to the playoffs as a result of a tiebreaker. The win sets the Pacific Conference championship series matchup, as Reno will square off against the Sacramento River Cats in a five-game series beginning Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 6:35 p.m. at Aces Ballpark.

Ransom-who earlier Monday was named to the All-PCL team-hit his team-leading 27th home run to break a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning, and the Aces added an insurance run in the eighth on a Konrad Schmidt RBI single. Aces starter Barry Enright (9-5) and two Reno relievers did the rest, keeping Fresno off the scoreboard over the final eight frames after the Grizzlies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first.

Enright surrendered just two runs on four hits over seven innings of work, earning his first win since July 14. Alberto Castillo tossed a scoreless eighth, and Ryan Cook slammed the door in the ninth to pick up his fifth save.

Geno Espineli (2-5) suffered the loss, allowing four runs-three earned-in six innings.

At the plate for the Aces, Evan Frey went 2-for-5 and scored twice, while Tommy Manzella added a pair of singles. Ransom finished 1-for-4 with his team-leading 90th and 91st RBIs of the season, a day after rejoining the Aces after a five-week stint with the D-backs.

Reno and Fresno continue the series Tuesday evening at Aces Ballpark. Reno RHP Kevin Mulvey (4-7, 6.51 ERA) is slated to face Grizzlies RHP Shane Loux (7-12, 4.77 ERA), with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. PT. Tuesday is the season's final 50-Cent Hot Dog Night presented by KTVN Channel 2 News, with 50-cent hot dogs available throughout the game.
