Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Drive are pleased to announce that the South Atlantic League has authorized the sale of tickets for all possible 2011 Playoff Games at their award-winning ballpark in Downtown Greenville. Tickets will go on sale Monday, beginning at 10:00 AM at the Fluor Field Box Office. Fans can also charge tickets with any major credit card by calling the Drive at (864) 240-4528 or visiting GreenvilleDrive.com.
Tickets for the 2011 South Atlantic League Divisional and Championship Series will be priced the same as regular-season tickets - Box Seats are just $8, Reserved Seats are $7, Reserved Terrace Seats are $6, and Lawn & Deck Seats are $5 - providing even more affordable, family-friendly entertainment during the month of September, should the Drive once again return to the postseason.
"We are very excited to be in the playoff hunt with the opportunity to provide our fans with great postseason Drive baseball for a third straight season," noted Drive General Manager Mike deMaine. "We have an outstanding team this year, highlighted by some of the Red Sox top draft selections and prospects, and we anticipate the playoff atmosphere at Fluor Field to be like none other as our loyal fans support the Drive's run to the 2011 South Atlantic League Championship."
Heading into Friday, the Drive are currently leading the Southern Division's Wild Card race by 8 games over the Asheville Tourists and Augusta
GreenJackets, while trailing the 1st place Savannah Sand Gnats by just 2-1/2 games. The division winner of each half of the South Atlantic League's regular season advances to the playoffs; however, if the same team wins both halves, the team with the next best overall record punches their ticket.
Should the Drive advance to the 2011 South Atlantic League Playoffs, Fluor Field would be the host site for Game 1 of the Divisional Round (Best-of-3 series) versus the Savannah Sand Gnats on Wednesday, September 7th at 7:05 PM.
If the Drive wins its series against Savannah, they would then host games 3, 4, and 5 of the South Atlantic League Championship Series (Best-of-5 series) on Thursday, September 15 at 7:05 PM; Friday, September 16 at 7:05 PM; and Saturday, September 17 at 7:05 PM (Games 4 and 5 if necessary). Their opponent in the finals would be the Northern Division Champion.
With a consistent string of the Red Sox top organizational prospects, the Drive have advanced to the South Atlantic League Championship series in each of the previous two seasons. Since the league altered their playoff requirements in 2000, only one other team has advanced to the postseason three consecutive seasons (Augusta GreenJackets, 2006-2008).
Drive Co-Owner and President, Craig Brown, commented on the playoffs, saying, "It's been a very exciting season and with one of the youngest team in the league it is a tribute to the Red Sox that we are on the verge of postseason play for the third consecutive year. Our fans have enjoyed watching many of the Red Sox top prospects don a Greenville Drive uniform all year, and I can think of no better way to conclude our sixth season than with our third straight trip to the playoffs.
Fans will be able to get a full refund on any games that are not played at Fluor Field or use the monies as a credit towards 2012 single-game tickets.
The schedule for the 2011 South Atlantic League Playoffs will be as follows:
Southern Division Championship Series:
Game 1 - Wednesday, September 7th (7:05 PM at Fluor Field)
Game 2 - Friday, September 9th (at Savannah Sand Gnats)
