York Revolution News Release

After four and a half seasons and many near misses, the York Revolution finally earned their first ever sweep on the road, doing it at Southern Maryland's Regency Furniture Stadium which had historically been a problematic place to visit for the Revs. York's 5-4 win over the Blue Crabs on Sunday afternoon improves the Revs' record to 3-0 to begin the second half, while their current winning streak has reached five consecutive games, all on the road, another club record for longest road winning streak. The Revs return home to host the Road Warriors in a three-game series on Monday night.

The game had an ominous beginning as Revs starter Matt DeSalvo, the league's leader in innings and strikeouts, was lifted after two pitches with an apparent cramp in his chest, leaving the bullpen to pitch all nine innings.

Southern Maryland jumped on lefty Jack Spradlin with a two-run homer from Rich Giannotti and a solo shot from Brian Barton to grab a quick 3-0 lead before an out was recorded. Spradlin did not allow another hit though, matching his season-high with three innings pitched.

The Revs tied the game in the fourth as Jose Herrera ripped a one-out single to right and Vince Harrison doubled to deep center extending his hitting streak to 23 consecutive games, now the second-longest in club history. With two outs, Chris Nowak slammed a 2-2 offering deep over the fence in left for a game-tying three-run homer.

The Revs took the lead in the sixth when Harrison blasted a solo homer to left-center, and Nowak clubbed his second of the day with a towering shot just left of the centerfield batter's eye, handing York a 5-3 advantage.

Reliever Lee Tabor (2-0) earned his second win of the season and first with the Revs, also totaling three innings while not allowing a run. Tabor worked out of a bases loaded, no-out jam in the fourth with a double play and a strikeout to keep the game tied at the time.

Sean Stidfole and Ricardo Gomez each worked scoreless innings out of the York bullpen, and Michael Nix earned his ninth save finishing the game with the tying and winning runs on base.

Tanner Townsend led off the bottom of the ninth with a homer to left cutting the lead to one, but after a pair of singles put runners at the corners, Nix struck out Barton looking to secure a long-awaited franchise first for the Revs, finishing the road sweep.

Notes: Nowak's two-homer game was his second since joining the club, and his four RBI matched his season-high. The Revs are now 21-9 since June 14 and are a season-high 12 games over .500 (39-27) leading Southern Maryland by three games for the third best overall record in the league. It was York's sixth sweep overall on the season adding to a club record, and their second sweep all-time vs. Southern Maryland, their first against the Crabs since sweeping a four-game home series in August, 2008. It was the fourth time they went into a road series finale this season with a chance at a sweep, and the 11th time in club history, this time finishing the sweep for the first time ever. The Revs finish the season series at Regency Furniture Stadium 4-5, their best single-season mark ever in Waldorf, and will play the Crabs six more times at home. York's Corey Thurman (6-3, 3.97) will start Monday's series opener at Sovereign Bank Stadium, a Hatfield Dollar Dog Night. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
