Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ) - Three hits by the rehabbing Shane Victorino sparked the Reading Phillies (48-45) past the Trenton Thunder (50-43) 13-2 in front of 8,137 on Saturday night at Waterfront Park. In game three of a four-game series, Brad Lidge, also in a rehab appearance on behalf of the Philadelphia Phillies, hurled a scoreless seventh inning for Reading. At the plate, the Thunder only scraped across a sacrifice fly from Austin Romine and a solo homerun off the bat of Addison Maruszak.
The scoreboard at Waterfront Park was lit up by the Thunder in the bottom of the first inning. A Ray Kruml walk was followed by a Corban Joseph single, advancing Kruml all the way to the third base bag. Austin Romine then flew out to deep centerfield to advance the speedy Kruml the necessary ninety feet to cross home plate. Romine's 37th run batted in of the season gave Trenton a 1-0 advantage after one frame.
With the team trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Addison Maruszak personally drew the Thunder closer with his fourth homerun of the season. The long ball ricocheted off of the second level of signage in left-centerfield and cut into the Reading lead that now stood at 4-2.
That would be all the offense for the Thunder, though, as Shane Victorino and the R-Phils' bats never quit pestering the Thunder pitching staff. The rehabbing Victorino led the game off with a double off the top of the wall in right field. The Phillies All Star outfielder then reached on an infield single in the second and roped an RBI-single in the sixth. Victorino finished the night 3-5 at the plate as he was replaced by a pinch hitter in the ninth inning.
The finale of the four-game set with the Reading Phillies will take place on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 PM as the Thunder attempt a series win. The Thunder will give the pearl to LHP Manny Banuelos (3-3, 3.53), while the R-Phils will counter with RHP B.J. Rosenberg (2-4, 4.83). The SBLI Pre-Game show with Jay Burnham and Hank Fuerst begins at 12:45 PM. Tune-in to the game on 91.3 WTSR and trentonthunder.com.
Waterfront Park and the Reading Phillies will welcome back the rehabbing Shane Victorino and Brad Lidge on Sunday. The first 1,000 fans ages 5-15 on Sunday will receive Youth Fielding Gloves presented by Rosenberger's Dairies.
