Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs split a twin bill against the Twins affiliate; the New Britain Rock Cats Tuesday night at Hadlock Field. The Rock Cats slipped away with an extra inning 2-1 victory in a pitcher's duel in game one. In game two the Sea Dogs slugged their way to a 12-5 win to split the doubleheader.
Game one featured two of the top ten ERA pitchers in the Eastern League; Alex Wilson (2.92, 8th) for Portland and Liam Hendriks (2.81, 6th) for New Britain. Both pitchers would pitch well and neither would factor into the decision.
The Sea Dogs offense would strike first scoring a run in the third inning. Mitch Dening, 2-for-3, led off the inning with a single and Alex Hassan delivered a two run RBI single scoring Dening from second to give Portland a 1-0 lead.
Alex Wilson would hold the powerful Rock Cats offense scoreless through five innings. In the sixth, Wilson retired the first two batters but then proceeded to load the bases with a double and two walks. New Britain would tie the game when Deibinson Romero drew a 3-2 bases loaded walk from Wilson, forcing him from the game. Wilson finished the night allowing one run on five hits in 5.2 innings of work. He walked a Double-A career high five batters and struck out five. He lowered his ERA to 2.82.
Wilson would give way to Kyle Fernandes who would get out of the sixth without any further damage.
Portland threatened in the bottom of the sixth loading the bases with one out but Hendriks got Oscar Tejeda to pop-up and Jorge Padron to ground out to keep the game tied at one.

After making a spectacular defensive play in the eighth inning, Romero delivered his second RBI of the game with a game winning home run over the Maine Monster off Kyle Fernandes (0-3) to give the Rock Cats a 2-1 victory.
Deolis Guerra (5-6) would earn the win pitching two innings of scoreless ball. Tyler Robertson earned his ninth save pitching a scoreless final frame.
In game two, the Sea Dogs used a seven run sixth inning to defeat the Rock Cats 12-5. Ryan Khoury went 3-for-4 with two RBI's including the game winner. Alex Hassan and Chih-Hsien Chiang each plated three runs for Portland.
New Britain got on the scoreboard first, scoring a run on a Romero single. Matt Spring homered for the third time in just his fifth game with Portland in the bottom half of the second inning to tie the game at one.
Three straight doubles in the third would lead to three runs as New Britain took a 4-1 lead. Portland responded with a four spot in the bottom half of the inning with three runs coming off a Hassan home run, his seventh of the season, as Portland took a 5-4 lead.
Chris Parmalee hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Brian Dozier in the sixth to tie the game at five.
Portland would bat around and explode for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. Khoury's RBI double scoring Dening broke the 5-5 tie. Chiang's bases loaded triple was the big blow in the inning. Reynaldo Rodriguez added a RBI single and Jon Hee a RBI double.
Michael Lee made his first start for the Sea Dogs since May 29th after recovering from a right triceps strain. He tossed 3.2 innings allowing four runs on nine hits.
