Hagerstown Suns News Release
Hagerstown, MD - In game three, the Hagerstown Suns (34-21) used strong starting pitching from LHP Matt Grace (6-4) and a barrage of offense to take the Greenville Drive (26-29) on Friday night at Municipal Stadium by a score of 11-5.
Grace, the winning pitcher, tossed 6.1 innings and allowed two earned runs on seven hits, while walking one and fanning three.
RHP Brandon Workman (1-4), the losing pitcher of record, went just 4.2 innings and surrendered six runs, four earned, on eight hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts.
The Drive earned two runs in the 1st inning when LF Brandon Jacobs, as part of a 2-for-4, four-RBI evening, lashed an RBI single through the hole at shortstop and into left field before SS Jose Garcia knocked an RBI single into left field.
The Suns saw 2B Adrian Sanchez lift an opposite field solo home run in the bottom of the 1st frame over the right field fence, his first of the season.
Three more runs were plated for Hagerstown in the 3rd inning on a two-run home run by CF Wade Moore, his second long shot of the campaign during a three-RBI contest. Then, C David Freitas roped an RBI single to right field.
Two more runs came to fruition in the 4th frame on an RBI double by the DH Kevin Keyes down the left field line and an RBI single back up the middle by 1B Mills Rogers.
A Sanchez RBI double into the right center field gap in the 6th inning to give the Suns a 7-2 lead.
A pair of runs added more cushion for Hagerstown in the 7th inning on an RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of 3B Sean Nicol before an RBI bloop single to left field, before LF Randolph Oduber, fresh off the disabled list, wrapped a two-RBI triple up the right field line.
The only comeback runs for Greenville came off a three-run homer to right-center field off the bat of Jacobs.
The Suns and Drive will clash in the series finale at 7:05pm on Saturday night. The Break Away 2 Sports Lounge Pre-game Show will get underway at 6:50pm. The Suns will bring LHP Sammy Solis (NR, 5.79) to the mound to face off with RHP Kyle Stroup (1-5, 6.59).
