Arkansas Travelers News Release
North Little Rock - Frisco RoughRiders lefty and Texas Rangers' #1 prospect Martin Perez pitched a five-inning perfect game, winning 1-0 against the Travelers in a weather-shortened game on Tuesday night at Dickey-Stephens Park. Tornado sirens were going off in Little Rock when the game was delayed in the top of the sixth inning with two outs and was eventually called. The Arkansas loss ended a four-game winning streak and put the Travs at 6-6 for the season.
Perez didn't allow a runner in five innings, striking out three Travelers. He got seven groundouts and five fly outs.
Travs starter lefty Trevor Reckling (0-1) pitched a solid game, going five innings, giving up one run in the first inning. Although Reckling had two outs in the sixth inning, the called game resulted in the half inning being canceled out. He allowed five hits, all in the first two innings, and struck out five RoughRiders, while walking none.
In the top of the first inning, Reckling retired the leadoff man on a groundout to second base, but surrendered three consecutive hits. Third baseman Tommy Mendonca hit a single to right field that scored second baseman Davis Stoneburner to give Frisco a 1-0 lead.
Reckling struck out the first two batters of the second inning before giving up consecutive singles to catcher Jose Felix and shortstop Guilder Rodriguez. Felix attempted to go to third on the single to right field, but was thrown out by Angel Castillo to end the inning. Reckling retired the next 11 (nine official) batters before the game was called in the sixth.
The Travs hit the road after an off day on Wednesday, before traveling to Northwest Arkansas to face the Naturals at Arvest Park on Thursday, April 21. Right-hander Orangel Arenas (1-0, 0.82) gets the start for the Travs and lefty Will Smith (0-1, 11.81) will start for the Naturals.
Arenas pitched six scoreless innings his last start against Midland on April 15, earning the win. He gave up three hits, struck out six and walked one. Smith pitched one inning against San Antonio on April 15 and got rocked, giving up six runs on six hits.
