MCALLEN, TEXAS - The defending NBA Development League champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced Tuesday that they have acquired guard Garrett Temple (6-6, 190, LSU), who played for the team last year before earning three-straight GATORADE Call-Ups with the Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings and San Antonio Spurs.

The Vipers have also waived forward Stanley Asumnu (6-5, 220, Tennessee) due to personal reasons. The Vipers retain his rights.

Temple started this season with the Spurs, scoring two points with two rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in three games off the bench.

After playing for the Rockets during 2009 NBA Training Camp, Temple was allocated to the Vipers where he averaged 14.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.4 steals and 34.9 minutes in 30 games (all starts). The rookie earned a GATORADE Call-Up to the Rockets on February 8, and after two 10-day contracts, earned a GATORADE Call-Up to the Kings. Following a 10-day contract there, Temple earned a GATORADE Call-Up to the Spurs, where he signed a 10-day contract before signing for the remainder of the season on March 23. In 27 NBA games (four starts), Temple averaged 5.0 points, 1.1 rebounds and 12.4 minutes while shooting 43.6% from the field.

"We are very fortunate to have Garrett Temple back with the Vipers. It is exciting that we are building an environment in the Rio Grande Valley where players like Garrett and Antonio Anderson are choosing to bypass overseas opportunities to return to the Vipers in order to continue their NBA development. Garrett brings us talent, experience and intangibles that will benefit the development of our team. With their talent and potential we won't know how long we will have these guys but we will make the most of it during their time here," Vipers General Manager Gersson Rosas said.

Asumnu is averaging 4.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 12.0 minutes in three games off the bench.
