TAMPA BAY, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have reassigned goaltender Jaroslav Janus and forward Alex Hutchings from Norfolk to the ECHL's Florida Everblades, Admirals General Manager Julien BriseBois announced today.
Janus, a 6-foot-1, 189-pound goaltender from Presov, Slovakia, has not appeared in a game for the Admirals this season. The 21-year-old served as the backup goaltender in two of Norfolk's first three games to begin the 2010-11 season.
Last season, Janus appeared in 13 games for the Admirals, posting a 7-6-0 record with one shutout, a 2.07 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage. He led Norfolk in goals-against average and save percentage in his first season of professional hockey. Janus began the 2009-10 season by appearing with the Admirals in his first two pro games on a Professional Tryout Contract.
Janus was released from his Professional Tryout Contract on November 4, 2009, and joined his junior club, the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League. Janus appeared in 13 games with the Otters last season, posting a 7-4-2 record with a 2.81 goals-against average and .918 save percentage before being signed by the Lightning to an NHL contract on December 31, 2009, and re-joining the Admirals.
Janus played in 110 career OHL games with the Otters, posting a 45-53-7 record with a 3.69 goals-against average.
Janus played well at the 2009 World Junior Championships with Team Slovakia. He posted a 3-4-0 record with a 3.20 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage in seven games. He was named the tournament's top goaltender by attending media.
Tampa Bay drafted Janus in the sixth round (162nd overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Hutchings, a 5-foot-10, 173-pound left wing from Burlington, Ontario, has appeared in one game with the Admirals this season and is scoreless with a +1 rating and two shots on goal. The 19-year-old made his professional debut on October 9 at Binghamton.
Hutchings played in 68 games with the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League last season, recording 47 goals and 81 points. He ranked second on the Colts in goals and points. Hutchings was tied for fourth in the OHL for goals in 2009-10. His plus-44 rating was also third on the team. Hutchings played in 13 playoff games with Barrie last season, notching two goals and 10 points.
Hutchings played in 229 career OHL games, all with the Colts, registering 111 goals and 208 points. During the 2008-09 season he led the Colts in goals with 34, assists with 34, points with 68 and plus/minus with a plus-27. He also led Barrie with 29 goals and 54 points in 2007-08.
