SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The B-Sens came into Syracuse Saturday looking to put Friday night's 7-1 loss to Hershey well behind them. Solid goaltending by the Crunch proved to be the difference as net minder, Timo Pielmeier held the B-Sens to one goal, ensuring a 2-1 Syracuse victory.
Syracuse struck first as Brandon McMillan fired a shot past goaltender Barry Brust for his second goal of the season at 3:50 of the first period, unassisted.
The Crunch scored later that same period to take a 2-0 lead in the game. A turnover for the B-Sens created a two-on-one rush for Syracuse. Nicolas Deschamps capitalized on that opportunity at the 14:27 mark off a nice feed by Nick Bonino.
The B-Sens were none too short of opportunities as they outshot the Crunch 32-19. Pielmeier, Syracuse's German-born goaltender played a near flawless game, making 31 saves.
With an extra attacker, the B-Sens ended their scoreless drought late in the third as Bobby Butler blasted a shot from the bottom of the left circle into the Crunch net. That was Butler's third of the season coming at 18:50, with assists by Locke and Benoit. The B-Sens however, failed to score the tying goal in the final minute of play, dropping their third straight game.
The B-Sens travel to Toronto to take on the Marlies Sunday at 1 p.m. The game will be the first of ten American Hockey League contests to be featured on the CBC network.
