Frederick Keys News Release

Thursday night's game needed extra innings but the outcome was a familiar one as the Keys fell for the three straight night to the Kinston Indians. The K-Tribe scored three runs in the top of the 10th as they prevailed 5-3 at Harry Grove Stadium. The win for Kinston was their ninth in a row and sixth consecutive against Frederick.

The Indians jumped out to a quick lead in the game when 1B Jeremie Tice hit a two-run shot off RHP Luis Noel. Tice's fifth home run since joining the K-Tribe gave Kinston a two-run advantage before Frederick ever came to the plate. RHP Luis Noel finished his outing after just two innings. He allowed two earned runs on two hits while striking out two and walking two. Noel is scheduled to throw six innings in a piggyback roll on Monday afternoon in Wilmington.

Frederick's first scoring opportunity came in the second inning. LF Brian Conley led off the inning with a single into leftfield. With DH Bobby Stevens at the plate, Conley stole second base and eventually advanced to third after Stevens grounded out. With one down, C Luis Bernardo hit a hard groundball to third base. On the play, Conley took off for home and 3B Kyle Bellows tossed home to get the out. Conley tried to avoid the tag by jumping around C Alex Castillo however when he landed he went down to the ground in pain. Conley left the game and Jonathan Schoop entered for him. Schoop, who was promoted to Frederick on September 1, played the rest of the game in leftfield, a position he has never played in his professional career.

In the sixth inning, the Keys finally got to RHP Joey Mahalic. With two out, SS Pedro Florimon doubled down the leftfield line. After Mahalic hit RF Ronnie Welty, 3B Billy Rowell hit a two-run double to left. On the throw home, Rowell advanced to third but was tagged out by 3B Kyle Bellows when he came off the bag when getting up from his slide.

RHP Jose Duran and LHP Will Startup, despite walking seven batters, tossed six scoreless innings as the game remained two heading into the ninth. LHP Brett Bordes did not allow a run in the top of the ninth. With two down in the bottom of the ninth, 1B Tyler Townsend tripled down the rightfield line. Townsend would be stranded on the third as RHP Tyler Sturdevant struck out Jonathan Schoop to the end the ninth.

The walks finally caught up to the Keys in the tenth. With the bases loaded and one out, LHP Brett Bordes walked Jeremie Tice to bring home the go-ahead run. Two batters later, 3B Kyle Bellows singled home two more runs to give Kinston a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom of the 10th. DH Bobby Stevens homered off K-Tribe closer, RHP Cory Burns, to leadoff the inning but that was all Frederick could score off Burns as he notched his Carolina League best, 28th save of the year. RHP Tyler Strudevant improved to 3-1 for the Indians while LHP Brett Bordes fell to 4-3 on the year.

The Keys will try to avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of the Indians on Friday night. Frederick will send RHP Oliver Drake (5-6, 4.28) to the hill while Kinston will counter LHP T.J. House (6-9, 3.82). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. from Harry Grove Stadium.

Friday night is the final regular season home game for Frederick in 2010. Fireworks presented by Zaruba & Zaruba will follow the contest. For tickets call 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at www.frederickkeys.com.
