Plefka Added To Pitching Staff For Brockton Stretch Run

Brockton, Mass. - With six games remaining in the regular season, the Brockton Rox continue to add to their pitching staff, signing righthanded pitcher Jon Plefka on Monday.

Previously, Plefka spent the 2010 campaign with St. Paul of the American Association, which wrapped up its regular season on Sunday. In 43 relief appearances with the Saints, the Hartford, Conn., native went 6-1 with a 2.65 ERA, striking out 55 hitters in 57.2 innings of work.

Prior to St. Paul, the 26-year-old played in 2009 with Bridgeport of the Atlantic League, where he limited opposing hitters to a .237 average while putting together a 5-4 record and a 3.26 ERA. A 46th-round pick of the Los Angeles Angels in the 2006 draft out of Texas Tech University, he played at the rookie level in the Angels' system in 2007 and 2008. The 6-foot-9, 245-pounder also played basketball at Texas Tech under coach Bobby Knight, averaging 19 minutes and 6.6 points per game as a senior in 2006-2007.

ROX CURRENTLY ACCEPTING BIDS FOR AUTISM AWARENESS JERSEYS

This Saturday, September 4, the Rox will be wearing their Autism Awareness jerseys during the evening's game against the Worcester Tornadoes at 6:05 p.m. Rox fans can bid on and win the jerseys through the club's silent auction, with proceeds going to Autism Speaks.

Bidding for the jerseys will take place at the Rox games from Friday, September 3 through Sunday, September 5, and will conclude at the end of the seventh inning of Sunday's game. Fans can also submit bids for the jerseys before Friday's game through the Rox office. To submit a bid, e-mail Hannah Schley at hannahschley@hotmail.com with the jersey number and the amount. The starting bid is $75 for each jersey, and must increase by a minimum of $5 increments.

Bidding amounts will be updated online after games on Friday and Saturday. E-mail bidding will end at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 5.
