New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - Miguel Flores turned in a quality start and the Pittsfield Colonials banged out 14 hits as they defeated the New Jersey Jackals 10-4 on a hot and humid Tuesday night at Yogi Berra Stadium.

Flores (9-4) earned the win to improve to 3-0 against New Jersey this season, allowing one run on four hits in 6.1 innings of work. Jackals starter Isaac Pavlik (7-6) yielded six runs on nine hits over six frames in the losing effort.

Trailing 9-0, the Jackals broke through against Flores in the bottom of the seventh when Carlos Sosa laced a leadoff triple down the right field line before scoring on a pinch-hit single by Jeff Grose. The Jackals tacked on a pair of runs with two outs in the eighth on a two-run double to left center by Jabe Bergeron after back-to-back singles by Mike DeJesus and Abraham Nunez. After Pittsfield plated a run in the top of the ninth to make it 10-3, an RBI fielders' choice off the bat of New Jersey's Kevin Clark pushed Grose across after his second hit off the bench to cap the scoring.

The Colonials middle infield duo led the Pittsfield offensive charge as shortstop Matt Nandin laced three RBI singles and second baseman Danny Bomback went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles.

The New Jersey loss combined with the Worcester Tornadoes 6-1 win over the Sussex Skyhawks pulls the Jackals and Tornadoes into a tie for the fourth and final playoff spot. New Jersey has five games remaining while Worcester has six left. New Jersey's magic number to clinch a playoff spot remains six.
