Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, Mass. - Rox LF Mike Conroy walked with the bases loaded to give Brockton the lead, and SS Dominic Ramos added insurance with a three-run triple, as the Rox plated seven runs in the eighth for a 7-3 triumph over the Quebec Capitales on Tuesday night at Campanelli Stadium. With the victory, Brockton is now a half game ahead of Quebec for first place in the second half.

The Capitales (25-17 second half, 55-34 overall) jumped ahead first with a lead-off home run in the second inning by 1B Pete LaForest. Quebec would double its lead to 2-0 in the fifth inning on a single by SS Ivan Naccarata.

LaForest began the sixth inning with his second longball of the night off of Rox starting RHP Wayne Lundgren to push the Capitales advantage to three, but from that point on the Capitales were held scoreless.

Quebec starting RHP Dan Sausville sparkled through seven shut-out innings, allowing just four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. He left the contest after throwing 100 pitches (65 strikes) and with the three-run lead.

The Rox (25-16, 52-36) proceeded to send 11 batters to the plate in the eighth inning. RHP Jeremy Hunt began the frame for the Capitales, giving up a lead-off single to Ramos. Hunt then issued back-to-back walks to CF Chris Valencia and DH Scott Wearne. With the bases loaded, 2B Shawn Williamsconnected on a two-run, line-drive single to pull Brockton within one, 3-2.

Closer LHP Andrew Albers entered the game for the Capitales and the first batter he faced, 1B Melvin Falu, singled to re-load the bases. The hit for Falu was the 417th of his Rox career, and he is now first all-time in Brockton club history.

After a strikeout of pinch-hitter Derek Kinzler, Albers skipped a pitch passed his catcher, allowing the tying run to come home for the Rox. C Chris Grossman then grounded out against the drawn-in defense, keeping runners at second and third.

Quebec elected to walk 3B Phillip Cuadrado intentionally to load the bases again, and to face Conroy. Conroy worked a five-pitch walk to bring in the go-ahead run across. Ramos followed with the bases-clearing triple, smacking off the top of the fence in right field.

In the ninth, Quebec put two runners on base against RHP Colin Lynch, but he was able to shut the door on the Capitales, and give the Rox the 7-3 come-from-behind victory.

LHP Brad Hertzler (3-1) picked up the win after pitching a perfect top of the eighth inning. Hunt (1-3) suffered the defeat for Quebec after he allowed all four batters he faced to reach in the eighth. He gave up four runs on two hits with two walks.

Valencia had another multi-hit game for the Rox, going 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Williams also added two hits including the two-run single in the eighth inning. Ramos had both of his hits in the eighth inning off of the Quebec bullpen.

LaForest led the way for Quebec, going 3-for-4 with the two homers and a single. CF Goefrey Tomlinson reached base all five times he was up to bat, with two singles and three walks.

The finale of this three-game series is Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. with Rox RHP Nick Tyson (0-1) getting the start against Quebec LHP Troy Cate (4-3).
