-SPIKES FINISH FIRST HALF OF ROAD TRIP TONIGHT: The State College Spikes complete a three-game set tonight at LeLacheur Park against the Lowell Spinners and look to avoid a series sweep. State College last visited Lowell in 2008 for a scheduled three-game set that turned into a single win by the Spinners due to rain. The Spinners lead the all-time series between the two teams, 7-5, and have taken four of the six games at LeLacheur Park.
-LAST GAME: New York-Penn League All-Star Matt Curry slugged his fourth home run of the season to start the State College Spikes' scoring, and Andy Vasquez capped it with a three-run dinger, but the Lowell Spinners had enough offense in between to down the Spikes, 6-5, on Wednesday night at LeLacheur Park. Curry's solo shot came in the second inning.
-CAIN ON RISE FOR SPIKES: Left-hander Colton Cain makes his fifth start of the year, and his seventh overall appearance, tonight for State College. Cain allowed one run, but no hits, in three innings of work this past Saturday against Tri-City. The southpaw from Waxahachie, TX has allowed right-handed hitters just a .194 average this season.
-SPINNERS CONCLUDE SET WITH CERVENKA: Lowell will send left-hander Hunter Cervenkda to the bump tonight. The Baytown, TX native was the 27th-round draft pick of the Red Sox in 2008 out of Sterling (TX) High School. All three of Cervenka's losses this season have come at home, where he has a 6.31 ERA.
-THREE SPIKES NAMED TO NYPL ALL-STAR TEAM: Three Spikes will represent the club in the New York-Penn League All-Star Game on August 17th at Staten Island. Infielder Matt Curry, outfielder Adalberto Santos and left-handed pitcher Jhonathan Ramos will all be on the National League squad at the game. Curry is currently leading the league in on-base percentage in the NYPL with a .431 mark, and Santos is tied for second in runs scored with 37.
