-SPIKES HIT THE ROAD FOR SIX: The State College Spikes head up to LeLacheur Park tonight to start a three-game series with the Lowell Spinners as part of a six-game road trip. State College last visited Lowell in 2008 for a scheduled three-game set that turned into a single win by the Spinners due to rain. The all-time series between the two teams is tied, 5-5.
-LAST GAME: Matt Curry went 2-for-3 with a double and reached base three times for the State College Spikes, but it wasn't enough as the Spikes were held to three hits total by the Tri-City ValleyCats pitching staff in a 7-0 defeat at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Monday night. Mel Rojas, Jr. picked up the other Spikes hit in the ninth inning.
-VON ROSENBERG TOSSING ZEROES: Right-hander Zack Von Rosenberg makes his 11th start for State College this evening. Von Rosenberg has not allowed an earned run in his last 16 innings, stretching over his last three starts. The Zachary, LA native saved his best for his last time out, holding Staten Island to no runs on two hits and two walks in six innings. Von Rosenberg has a 2.12 ERA since the start of July, with a 1.57 mark on the road.
-YOUNGINER STARTS FOR SPINNERS: Lowell will send right-hander Madison Younginer, originally scheduled to start last night, to the mound to begin the three-game set. The Simpsonville, SC native was the seventh-round choice of the Red Sox in the 2009 MLB Draft. Younginer has a 14.21 ERA in two home starts this season.
-THREE SPIKES NAMED TO NYPL ALL-STAR TEAM: Three Spikes will represent the club in the New York-Penn League All-Star Game on August 17th at Staten Island. Infielder Matt Curry, outfielder Adalberto Santos and left-handed pitcher Jhonathan Ramos will all be on the National League squad at the game. Curry is currently leading the league in on-base percentage in the NYPL with a .432 mark, and Santos is tied for second in runs scored with 37.
