Niles, OH - The Mahoning Valley Scrappers won game one of a three-game series against the Staten Island Yankees 7-3 tonight at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

Jordan Cooper got the start for the Scrappers and pitched well picking up his third win of the season, pitching five innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out three.

Zachary Varce got the loss for the Yankees lasting five innings, giving up four runs on four hits and striking out three.

Giovanny Urshela led the way for the Scrappers offensively going 1-4 with two RBI.

The Scrappers will look to win their third straight game tomorrow as the play the Yankees in game two of this three-game set. First pitch is at 11 a.m.
