Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - Kenneth Roque went 4-for-4 with two singles and two doubles in his first game back from the disabled list, and starter Pete Ruiz (8-8) pitched a solid six and two-thirds innings as Greenville (61-50, 25-16) defeated the Rome Braves 12-6.

Greenville battered Rome (50-61, 20-22) for 17 hits, matching their total from the night before. In addition to Roque's stellar offensive night, Jeremy Hazelbaker added three hits and a walk, including a three-run home run in the third inning.

Bret DeVall (7-8) allowed 13 hits and ten runs in six innings of work for Rome, staying in the game to rest an overused bullpen.

Ruiz scattered seven hits and two runs over his start, striking out four batters. His two runs allowed came on a home run by Rome shortstop Edward Salcedo in the top of the seventh inning.

Tom Ebert relieved Ruiz and got out of the seventh, but allowed two runs in the eighth, one on an RBI double by Christian Bethancourt and another on an RBI groundout by Todd Cunningham.

Anatanaer Batista pitched the ninth and also gave up two runs. He retired the final three batters he faced, twice via the strikeout.

Hazelbaker's home run lit the fuse for Greenville's offense. Three batters later with a man on first, Reynaldo Rodriguez hit a two-run home run, his sixth home run of the year.

Vladimir Frias singled in the fourth, and later scored on an RBI single by Roque. Roque was caught stealing, but Hazelbaker walked, stole second, and later scored on a Shannon Wilkerson single.

Roque and Hazelbaker hit consecutive doubles to lead off the sixth, followed by a single by Zach Gentile. Rodriguez and Reymond Fuentes drove in runs later in the inning with RBI singles.

Gentile earned his first RBI of the game in the seventh inning, driving in Roque, who doubled earlier in the inning.

Sean Kileen pinch hit for Rodriguez in the eighth, and scored the final run on an RBI groundout.

The same two teams will meet again on Sunday, where Greenville can guarantee a series win with a victory. Right-hander Ryan Pressly (4-6, 3.83 ERA) will toe the rubber versus southpaw Chris Masters (3-5, 3.51 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM at Fluor Field.

Tomorrow night is also "Family FunDay" at the ballpark, where kids can run the bases at the conclusion of the game. For more information regarding single-game tickets, group outings, or luxury accommodations, call (864) 240-4500 or visit www.GreenvilleDrive.com.
