Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
Josh Beckett worked into the fifth inning on Saturday in Syracuse as he attempts to rejoin the Red Sox rotation. By his own admission, he wasn't as sharp as he'd like to be. Pawtucket lost to the Chiefs 9-5, snapping the Pawtucket 3 game winning streak. Beckett allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, walking one and striking out 3.
Pawtucket rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take a 4-3 lead. Aaron Bates hit an opposite field home run, his ninth to tie it at 3-3. Prior to that, Mark Wagner knocked in a pair of runs, before leaving the game due to injury. The PawSox took the lead briefly when Niuman Romero hit his third home run of the season. For the second straight night, Lars Anderson had a double and a triple. Tug Hulett singled in a run in the ninth.
Santo Luis was ineffective in his second PawSox outing. Luis (0-1) allowed 5 runs in .2 innings. The big blow was a grand slam in the seventh by Seth Bynum. Luis was relieved by Tommy Hottovy.
The series and road trip concludes on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Robert Coello (2-2, 3.29) faces Matt Chico (4-4, 3.94).
