(Fort Mill, SC) Winston Abreu earned his 12th save, as the Bulls held on Saturday night to edge Charlotte 2-1, and win for the first time since the All-Star break.

Durham (56-37) now has an eight-game lead over the Knights (49-46) in the South Division after snapping Charlotte's six-game win streak.

Abreu came on in the eighth inning with a runner at first and two out, and walked Tyler Flowers on a 3-2 pitch, putting the lead run aboard. However, he struck out Jeremy Reed looking on a 2-2 fastball, and then retired the side in the ninth in order.

Abreu was the fourth Bulls pitcher. Joe Bateman and RJ Swindle followed Heath Phillips (7-6), who pitched six solid innings for the win.

Durham built its lead with single tallies in the first and fourth against Matt Zaleski (6-6). In the first inning Joe Dillon walked with two out, went to second when Dan Johnson was hit by a pitch, and Dillon scored on Chris Richard's ground single to center. In the fourth, Elliot Johnson hit a line drive sac fly to center, scoring Alvin Colina, who was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a Fernando Perez double to left.

Durham was held to six hits, three of them from Richard. Durham drew four more walks (15 in the first three games of this series), but left 11 on base, going 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

The Bulls can split the series on Sunday when lefty Carlos Hernandez starts against righty Brandon Hynick. Coverage on 620 the Buzz begins at 2 p.m., with first pitch at 2:15.
