G-Braves drop second straight to Bisons

The Lead: The Buffalo Bisons beat the Gwinnett Braves 4-3 at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, New York Saturday night in game three of the four-game series. The Bisons hit a sacrifice fly by pinch hitter Jorge Padilla in the bottom of the ninth to win it. The Braves committed three errors on the night, allowing three of four runs to be unearned.

It Was Over When: Padilla cracked the sac fly to right. The play scored Mike Cervenak from third with one out and the bases loaded. The teams had gone to the bottom of the ninth tied at 3, but Braves reliever Scott Proctor gave up a lead-off single to Cervenak to begin the ninth, and then on a bunt by Fernando Martinez, Proctor threw wildly at first putting runners on second and third with no one out. Russ Adams was intentionally walked to load the bases. Proctor then strikes out J. R. House, but give up the sac fly to Padilla.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: RHP Cristhian Martinez gets his first Triple-A start of the season, allowing 3 R (1 ER) on 3 hits in 5.0 IP. Corey Gearrin had another good outing, pitching 3 innings and allowing only 1 hit. Scott Proctor (2-3) was credited with the loss.

At the plate: All Gwinnett runs came off the long ball. A solo homerun by Freddie Freeman, his 11th of the season, in the first off of Buffalo starter Oliver Perez, and a two-run shot by Mitch Jones in the sixth off of Perez; the 18th of the year by Jones and third in two nights. Freeman finished 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored. Jones was also 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

The opposition:

On the Mound: LHP Oliver Perez started the game, striking out 7 in 6.2 IP. Manny Acosta earned the win (2-3) by working a scoreless ninth.

At the plate: The Bisons had only five hits in the game. Mike Jacobs was 2-for-4 with an RBI. The other hits were a single by Cervenak, and doubles from Russ Adams and J.R. House.

On Deck: The Braves and Bisons play the final game of the series in Buffalo Sunday afternoon. First pitch at 1:05 p.m. LHP Jose Ortegano (2-6, 6.51 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Braves. Buffalo will start RHP Dillon Gee (8-5, 4.77 ERA).
