Durham Wins the Pitching Match-up Over Knights

FORT MILL, S.C. - The Charlotte Knights came out on the wrong side of pitching duel with Durham Bulls. The 2-1 loss ended the Knights six game win streak.

The only scoring the Knights were able to get was a solo home run from Knights outfielder Stefan Gartrell in the 4th inning. It was the first game in the Knights last eight in which they did not have 10 hits. The loss moves the Knights to 8.0 games behind Durham in the International League South Division.

Former Charlotte Knights pitcher Heath Phillips earned his second win of the season against his former club. Phillips allowed just one run off six hits and struck out five as he improves to 7-6 on the year. Knights starting pitcher Matt Zaleski moves to 6-6 on the season.

The Bulls had a three hit game from Chris Richard as they earned their first win since the All-Star break. Winston Abreau earned his 12th save of the season.

Knights manager Chris Chambliss was absent from the game as he was participating in Old Timers Day at Yankee Stadium in New York.

The Knights and Bulls play the series finale tomorrow at 2:15 PM. RHP Brandon Hynick (1-0, 3.86 ERA) will pitch for the Knights, the Bulls will start LHP Carlos Hernandez (6-5, 4.09 ERA).
