PawSox Come Up Short Against Bats

Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
After scoring just one run in each of the last two games, the PawSox offense outpaced itself tonight with four in the first four innings. They mustered little else despite pounding out 15 hits, however, and lost their second straight to Louisville, 6-5.
PawSox starter Kris Johnson started off strong, retiring the first seven batters he faced before running into trouble in the third. A walk and two singles brought in the first Louisville run, and the Bats would add two more in the fifth on a two-run homer by Chris Burke. All told, Johnson gave up three runs on seven hits over five-and-a-third innings.
Meanwhile, the PawSox began the game offensively by picking up where they left off last night, when they left 13 men on base. They put men on in the first and second, only to see Angel Sanchez and then Dusty Brown ground into double plays. They broke through at last in the third for two runs on four straight hits as Niuman Romero and Angel Sanchez each drove in a run, and then picked up two more in the fourth, aided by a throwing error by catcher Chris Denove.
It remained a 4-3 game into the sixth, when Johnson came out after getting the leadoff man. Chad Paronto (2-5) struggled after retiring the first man he faced, giving up a single to Denove and then a triple to Burke as the Bats tied the game. After a walk, Fabio Castro came on to try to stop the bleeding but he promptly allowed a two-run double to Yonder Alonso that made it 6-4. Josh Reddick snared a deep fly ball from Michael Griffin racing away from the plate to end the inning.
The PawSox continued to threaten in the game's later stages, putting two men on with one out in the sixth to knock out starter Matt Maloney (6-3), but couldn't score. In the eighth, singles from Aaron Bates and Reddick had the PawSox knocking on the door again, but Dusty Brown flew out to shallow center and then the Bats doubled Bates off second after a lineout by Jorge Jimenez.
Romero doubled with one out off closer Jon Adkins, and after a sac fly from Gil Velazquez, Sanchez closed the gap to one with a single. Anderson grounded to first, though, and Adkins beat him to the bag by a half step to take the underhand flip from Alonso and end the game.
Burke was the offensive hero for Louisville, notching three hits and scoring two runs to go with four RBI. He came up in the eighth needing just a double for the cycle but struck out swinging.
The PawSox try to salvage a split of the four-game series tomorrow night behind Michael Bowden (1-2, 5.06) as he takes on Travis Wood (4-4, 3.77) at 7:05 at McCoy.
