Greenville Drive News Release
DeAngelo Mack went 3-for-5 with two runs, and Ray Kruml went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI as the Charleston RiverDogs (20-27) blanked the Greenville Drive (23-24) 5-0 in Wednesday's matinee at Fluor Field.
Sean Black (4-3) pitched seven strong innings for Charleston, allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out five.
Ryan Pressly allowed two hits and two walks in three and one-third innings for the Drive before a blister on his pitching hand forced him to leave the game.
He was relieved by Anatanaer Batista, who pitched the fourth and fifth innings without giving up a hit.
But Charleston's bats came alive in the top half of the sixth, getting six hits-all singles-off of Batista (1-3).
Batista was relieved by Jordan Flasher after allowing Ray Kruml to drive in the third and fourth runs of the inning.
Flasher got the next batter Zoilo Almonte to fly out to left to end the inning.
The RiverDogs added a run in the seventh when DeAngelo Mack doubled off of the Green Monster with one out, and was driven in on a single by Rob Lyerly two batters later.
The Drive offense was sluggish once again, getting sent down in order six times in the game, including in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings.
Only twice did the Drive get a runner in scoring position before the ninth inning, but in each case they were unable to bring the runner home.
Reynaldo Rodriguez led off the third with a single, and then moved to second by a Vladimir Frias single, but Black got the next three batters out in order.
Frias got to third with two out in the fifth, but Joantoni Garcia flew out to center to end the inning.
The Drive reached two men on base in the ninth inning with one out, but Ronald Bermudez grounded into a fielder's choice and Michael Almanzar grounded out to short to end the game.
Greenville will attempt to end their eight-game homestand on a high note by sending right-hander Kendal Volz (3-2, 3.70 ERA) to match up against Charleston right-hander Jairo Heredia (1-1, 6.48 ERA).
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm on Thursday.
In addition, tomorrow is Dollar Drink Night, where fans can purchase 12 ounce Pepsi products at any of the concession stands for just a buck.
Those fans at least 21 years old can head over to The 500 Club for draft specials.
