Drive Feel GreenJackets Sting in Series Finale, Lose 5-0

Greenville Drive News Release
Sunday was a tough day at the plate for the Drive (21-23), as they dropped a 5-0 decision to the Augusta GreenJackets (28-16) at Fluor Field. The Drive ended this four-game set by losing the last three games after winning the opener Thursday night.
Augusta starter Jeremy Toole (1-0) silenced the Greenville bats, pitching six innings of shutout ball while giving up just three hits and one walk. Toole also struck out five batters. Chris Gloor and Mitch Lively combined for the final three innings of relief, completing the shutout.
The GreenJackets opened the scoring in the third inning when Evan Crawford singled to drive in Daniel Cook on a hit-and-run. Cook had reached second on a two-base error by Drive third baseman Michael Almanzar.
In the sixth inning, the GreenJackets' Chris Dominguez victimized Drive starter Manuel Rivera for a two-run homer over the Green Monster in leftfield to extend the lead to 3-0. Rivera (2-4) took the loss but pitched well for Greenville before tiring in that inning. He ended up scattering five hits over 5.1 innings, allowing three runs (two earned), walking three, and striking out two.
Pedro Perez came on in relief of Rivera in the sixth and induced a ground-ball double play from Augusta's Sharlon Schoop to end the inning. However, Perez would give up two more Augusta runs in the seventh, as the GreenJackets' Nick Liles smacked a double down the rightfield line that plated Cook and Crawford. The 5-0 score at that point would hold up to be the final.
Reymond Fuentes and Ronald Bermudez each went 2-for-4 for the Drive, who will look to get back on track as they open a four-game series against their in-state rivals, the Charleston RiverDogs (19-24 entering play on Sunday), Monday night at 7:00 p.m. at Fluor Field. Drake Britton (0-1, 2.00 ERA) will get the start against Charleston's Kelvin Perez (2-2, 2.58 ERA).
