Salem, VA - Brock Huntzinger dazzled with six shutout innings and Mitch Dening connected on two clutch RBI singles to help Salem blank Potomac 2-0 on Saturday night at Lewis-Gale Field. The victory snapped a five-game losing skid for the Red Sox, who had not won since getaway day in Myrtle Beach, six days ago. Oscar Tejeda connected on three hits and Alex Hassan belted two doubles to surge the Sox offense to 10 hits, while the pitching did the rest, with Huntzinger, Will Latimer, and Kyle Fernandes teaming up for the six-hit shutout.

Huntzinger set down the first seven batters he faced, ten of the first 11, and 17 of the 19 he went up against over six innings. Potomac managed just two hits, both singles, while the Salem righty received excellent defensive support from his teammates. Huntzinger, whose record improved to 4-2, only struck out one, but he did not walk anybody and relied upon his defense to make the plays.

Salem broke through against Potomac starter Brad Peacock in the bottom of the second. Drew Hedman singled to open the inning, and after Ryan Dent flew out to left, the first of Hassan's two doubles moved Hedman over to third. Dening then poked a single into left field to score Hedman and give the Sox a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, Salem needed only two hits, as Hassan doubled and Dening singled, both with two outs, to make it 2-zip. Both Hassan and Dening finished 2-3. Dening has heated up in the last week, batting 7-13 over his past four games.

The two runs were all Salem could muster off Peacock, who struck out nine and only walked one over six innings, but the Sox would not require any more offense to become a winner on Saturday night. Though Salem pitchers only recorded two strikeouts in the game, they issued zero walks on the evening. Latimer allowed two hits but pitched two scoreless frames, while Fernandes also allowed two hits in the ninth, yet escaped unscathed to earn his team-leading fourth save of the year. The Nationals threatened in the ninth and put the tying runners in scoring position with two outs, but Tyler Moore popped to short to conclude the game and secure Salem's triumph.

The Red Sox win evens the series at one game apiece, with the rubber match scheduled for Sunday at 4:05. In somewhat of a "Before and After" pitching matchup, Potomac sends Robinson Fabian to the mound against Salem's Fabian Williamson.
