THE HILLCATS: Winston-Salem pounded Lynchburg 13-3 last night in the series opener of the three-game set at BB&T Ballpark...The Hillcats are now 3-11 in their last 14 games played...Tonight is the middle-game of the series with the Dash and the second of six in a row on the road for the Cats...

VS. WINSTON-SALEM: The Hillcats and Dash met for the first time last weekend in Lynchburg, and the Dash swept the three-game series...Last season the Cats went 11-9 against the Dash and were 5-5 in Winston-Salem...Lynchburg holds the all-time advantage in the series with Winston-Salem 154-148, and they are 68-80 in the Triad...

OPEN THE FLOODGATES: After an inning and a half last night the Hillcats led 3-0 over the Dash...Winston-Salem went on to score the next 13 runs over the course of four innings to take a ten-run lead...The 13 runs are the most Lynchburg has allowed this season, the ten-run difference is the biggest loss of the season and it matched their biggest blown lead this year...

WHEN CAN YOU START: Lynchburg added OF Efrain Contreras to the roster yesterday from Low-A Dayton and he was in the line-up last night...In his Hillcats debut he went 2-for-3 with a run and a walk...The Cats currently have three players that are listed as outfielders on their roster, Josh Fellhauer, Kyle Day and Contreras...On Wednesday night Fellhauer went out of the game after colliding with the wall in left-center field chasing a fly ball and he was a late scratch Thursday night...After he left the outfield consisted of Cody Puckett, Kevyn Feiner and Day...Puckett moved to center field Wednesday night to play there for the first time in his career...This season Puckett has played outfield for the first time as a professional and for the first time since he played a handful of games there in high school...Feiner has spent the majority of his six-year career at second base and had only played 34 games in the outfield before this season...Day has played the outfield, caught and played first in his professional career...He had only played 36 games in the outfield prior to this season, only played right field three times (which is where he played last night) and he has been the designated hitter more than anything else...

WHEN DUTY CALLS: C Jordan Wideman became the first Hillcats position player to pitch this season when he worked a perfect bottom of the eighth inning...He hit as high as 84 on the scoreboard radar gun and set down the side in order...He stayed in the game and became the first pitcher to hit for himself this season when he struck out to end the game in the top of the ninth...

UP THROUGH THE QUAD TO THE GYMNASIUM: Last night C Devin Mesoraco 3-for-4 with a double and a run to keep alive his consecutive on-base safely streak...He has now reached safely in his last 27 games (and hit in 23 of those)...Over that time he is batting .356 (36-for-101) with seven doubles, two triples, six homers, 20 RBI, 17 runs scored, 14 walks and an OBP of .449...His on-base streak is the longest by a Hillcat this season and last night he broke the longest streak this year in the CL (OF Brandon Short, Winston-Salem)...Mesoraco is now tied for fifth in the league in batting average (.336), tied for third in home runs (8), fourth in on-base percentage (.421) and second in slugging percentage (.606)...

BATTLING BUCK: INF Alex Buchholz went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run last night...He has now hit in a season-best 11 straight games, matching the longest streak by a Hillcat this season (OF Josh Fellauer)...Over that time he is 17-for-41 (.415) with four doubles, a home run, 11 RBI, five runs and two walks...He has raised his average over that stretch from .250 to .297...Last night he went 1-for-1 with men in scoring position and he is now batting .476 (20-for-42) with RISP...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Nate Jones was selected by the White Sox in the fifth round of the 2007 draft out of Northern Kentucky University...He began his professional career with Rookie Bristol that same year and went 0-4 with a 5.13 ERA in 13 games (10 starts)...He returned to Bristol the next season and went 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA in four games (one start) before earning a promotion to full season Low-A Kannapolis, where he posted a 1-7 mark with a 6.83 ERA in 18 games (10 starts)...He also made two appearances with Winston-Salem that season, and he had no decisions and didn't allow an earned run for the Warthogs...Last season he began with Kannapolis and went 2-0 with a 2.41 ERA in 13 relief appearances with the Intimidators before he earned a promotion to Winston-Salem...In 32 appearances out of the pen for the Dash he went 2-1 with a 3.65 ERA with two saves...This season he has returned to the Dash as a starter and has gone 3-1 with a 3.80 ERA in eight starts...His last outing was against the Hillcats and he went five and 1/3 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) in a no decision...Winston-Salem rallied to win that game last Sunday at Lynchburg by a final of 6-4...Jones was listed as the 26th best prospect in the White Sox minor league system by Baseball America prior to the season...
