Kane County Cougars News Release
BELOIT, Wisc. - After losing, 7-0, in a makeup from a rainout last week, the Cougars rallied to a 3-2 Game 2 victory over the Beloit Snappers to earn a doubleheader split at Pohlman Field. Nino Leyja's RBI single in the ninth inning of Game 2 provided the go-ahead run, as the Cougars moved back to three games out of first place and one game over .500.
In Game 1, Justin Marks (1-5) suffered the loss. He gave up seven runs -- four earned -- on seven hits over five innings before Ryan Quigley worked a perfect sixth. The Cougars managed only three hits against Miguel Munoz (1-2), who tossed a complete-game victory.
The Cougars also fell behind in Game 2, as Kyle Christensen allowed a first-inning run before settling down to get through four frames. He yielded two hits, walked one and fanned two in a no-decision. The Cougars took advantage of some beneficial bounces to earn the victory. They tied the game in the third when Tyreace House walked, two second on a wild pitch and advanced to third and scored on a throwing error. After Connor Hoehn gave up a run in the fifth, the Cougars drew even in the seventh. Myrio Richard singled, took second on a bunt and advanced two bases and scored on a wild pitch. Then in the ninth Max Stassi walked, moved up two bases on another wild pitch and scored on Leyja's single. Guzman (2-1) picked up the victory with three innings of one-hit shutout relief and four strikeouts, and Kane Holbrooks (2-2) got saddled with the loss.
The Cougars (20-19) and Snappers (23-16) continue the series Wednesday night at 6:30 CT. Rob Gilliam (3-1, 2.89) is scheduled to face Brad Stillings (2-2, 5.04). The game will be broadcast on WBIG 1280-AM and online at www.kccougars.com, with pregame coverage starting at 6:15 p.m.
