MIDLAND, MI - The Loons fell victim to the Bowling Green Hot Rods pitching, which limited Great Lakes to one run on three hits in Tuesday night's 4-1 loss at Dow Diamond.

Hot Rods starter Alexander Colome (3-2, 1.97) tossed six strikeouts while walking just one batter over six innings of work to record his third win of the season. Reliever Kirby Yates notched his fourth save by throwing three hitless innings and striking out five Loons.

"They did a good job keeping us off-balance by working away [from the plate]," Loons first baseman Jerry Sands said after the game. "We've just got to have a little bit better approach...we've got to be a little more aggressive. We're hitting against a lot of pitchers' pitches right now, just because they're getting ahead of us [in the count]."

The Loons lone run came in the fourth inning, when Sands drove in Loons left fielder Angelo Songco with a single to centerfield. With the RBI-hit, Sands extended his season-high hit streak to 12 games, going 20-for-46 (.434) in that span. Also getting hits for the Loons were Songco and second baseman Rafael Ynoa.

Bowling Green scored their first two runs in innings where they failed to record a hit. In the first, Loons starter Josh Wall walked leadoff man Dustin Biell, who advanced around the bases on a sacrifice bunt and a infield grounder before finally reaching home plate on the first of Wall's three wild pitches. In the third inning, after striking out, Ty Morrison reached first base on a passed ball by Gorman Erickson. Later in the inning, Morrison scored on a missed catch by Loons third baseman Brian Ruggiano, who was hoping to catch Morrison stealing.

The H-Rods scored their final two runs on two-out doubles by Biell and Eligio Sonoqui, one in the seventh and another in the eighth.

Josh Wall was tagged with his second loss of the season, fanning five Hot Rods and walking two over six innings of work. The 23-year-old righty allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits. Steve Smith pitched two innings in relief and also allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits. Jordan Roberts pitched the final hitless inning for the Loons.

The Loons will play game two of their three-game series Wednesday against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. RHP Brett Wallach (2-0, 3.03) will start on the mound for the Loons, while LHP Aaron Dott will make his first start of the season. The Loons will salute the Magical Kingdom at Wednesday night's game and Hall of Famer and Dodger great, Tommy Lasorda, is scheduled to be available to participate in a Meet and Greet with Loons fans. Time and availability for the Meet and Greet are subject to change. First pitch for the games is set for 7:05 p.m.

The Great Lakes Loons are a fourth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
