Burlington, IA (May 18, 2010) - Bees right-hander Tyler Sample recorded his second consecutive quality start on Tuesday night in a 4-1 series-opening loss to Clinton at Community Field.

The LumberKings put the Bees behind the eight ball early, tallying three runs on five hits off of starter Tyler Sample in the game's first two innings. James Jones and Dennis Raben each doubled and scored in the first, and Gabriel Noriega singled and scored in the second to put Clinton up 3-0.

Rene Oriental laced a single to lead off the fifth, and scored two batters later on a Ryan Wood fielder's choice to bring the Bees to within a pair. That was as close as they would get, however, as James Jones scored on a seventh inning wild pitch to push the lead back to three.

Clinton's Erasmo Ramirez (W, 2-2) worked a season-high seven innings, allowing a run on seven hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Despite being touched up early, Sample recorded a quality start, allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings with four strikeouts and three walks.

Fernando Cruz recorded a pair of hits to extend his hitting streak to seven games.

The Bees take on Clinton in the middle game of the set on Kids Eat Free Wednesday. All kids 12 and under will receive a free hot dog and soda, and the Bees will send righty Matt Mitchell to the mound as they attempt to even the series at one.
