First Inning Folly Leaves Bandits with 10-3 Loss

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Quad Cities River Bandits surrendered seven runs in the bottom of the first inning which proved to be enough for the Cedar Rapids Kernels to take the first game of a three game set in Cedar Rapids.
The Bandits were held to just three runs on seven hits in Tuesday's contest. Jason Stidham went 3-for-4 on the night, while Niko Vasquez chipped in with an RBI double. Matt Adams drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth, but the Bandits couldn't string enough runs together to top the Kernels offensive attack.
Jorge Rondon (2-1) was charged with his first loss in the 2010 campaign going just two-thirds of an inning allowing seven runs, two earned. He walked three in the loss. Michael Blazek stopped the bleeding pitching four scoreless innings in relief. He gave out just one free pass and fanned two. Justin Corbin (7-0) picked up his league leading seventh victory against the River Bandits. He threw six innings surrendering three runs, two earned, on six hits. Corbin punched out five and walked two in the win.
The River Bandits look to split the first two games of the series as they send the Cardinals number one overall prospect, Shelby Miller (1-2), to the mound to face south paw Tyler Skaggs (1-2). First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
