MINNETONKA, MN (May 9, 2010) - The townball team made up of Minnetonka Miller players and various other All-Stars from around the Metro Area proved to be formidable opponents for the St. Paul Saints who needed three runs over the final two innings to earn a 6-6 tie at Minnetonka's Veterans Field.

With the Saints trailing 6-3 in the eighth they loaded the bases on back-to-back walks to Ole Sheldon and Jason Cooper. Andrew Schmiesing followed with a single. With one out Ryan Richardson walked to force in a run, making it 6-4 and Steve Mays' sacrifice fly cut the deficit to a run.

In the ninth Brent Krause led off with a walk. He stole second and with one out Cooper walked. Schmiesing's single to right scored Krause and sent Cooper to third. Hector Estrella then hit a grounder to third and Mason Reinhart was able to force Cooper at the plate. The inning ended when Richardson flew out to right.

The Minneview All-Stars jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on three consecutive singles by Rob Schildgen, Joe Abellera and Joe Shallenberger, the latter knocking in a run. With one out Dave Lindstrom plated the second run with a single to left.

The Saints tied it at two in the third on Estrella's solo homer and a sacrifice fly from Coby Smith.

The All-Stars batted around in the fourth and scored four runs to take a 6-2 lead. They loaded the bases on back-to-back singles from Brian Hopkins and Mark Morris and a walk to Paul Odegaard. The next four batters knocked in runs on a single by Mark Merrill, a bases loaded walk to Schildgen, a single by Abellera and a fielder's choice by Shallenberger.

The Saints cut the deficit to 6-3 in the fifth when Smith reached on an error, moved to second on a walk to Josh Alley and scored on Kevin Millar's single to left.

Saints relievers Zach Peterson and Kyle Foster were impressive. Peterson went 2.0 shutout innings allowing one hit while striking out four, while Foster went 3.0 shutout innings, giving up one hit while walking one and striking out five.

The Saints play Monday night at 7:00 p.m. at U.S. Steel Yard against the Gary SouthShore RailCats.
