Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers posted a second consecutive shutout performance in an 8-0 win over Las Vegas at Cheney Stadium on Saturday. The effort upped the team's scoreless innings streak to a season-high 21 innings and put Tacoma above .500 for the first time this season.

The scoreless stretch is the Rainiers longest since going 22 frames without allowing run dating back to a four-game set with the Iowa Cubs, July 26-28, 2005.

Starter Chris Seddon made sure the streak stayed alive in Saturday's outing and allowed six hits over seven scoreless innings en route to his third win this season, along with two walks and six strikeouts.

Tacoma's offense did their part too, posting their largest margin of victory this season and recording their second straight game with 12 or more hits.

Outfielder Brad Nelson got things going in the top of the second with an RBI-double that drove in Josh Bard from first and gave Tacoma a 1-0 edge. A pair of errors by the 51s' Jesus Merchan and Luis Figueroa paved the way for three more runs in the third.

Chris Woodward's double, followed by a triple from Ezequiel Carrera, scored two more and upped the Rainiers lead to 6-0 through the fourth inning. The night was capped off by Matt Tuiasosopo's two-RBI single that drove in Bard and Nelson in the seventh and rounded out the Rainiers run total to eight for the evening.

Las Vegas starter Marty McLeary, making his first start this season, was tagged with the loss in the outing after giving up six runs, four earned, on six hits over just 3.1 innings of work.

Tacoma hosts Las Vegas at Cheney Stadium once again tomorrow afternoon when they send right-hander David Pauley to the mound against 51s righty Robert Ray, with first pitch set for 1:30 p.m.
