Drive Swept by GreenJackets in Pitchers' Duel Doubleheader

Augusta, GA - Just over a week ago the Drive (15-11) swept pulled off a twinbill sweep at Fluor Field. Faced with yet another doubleheader, this time on the road in Augusta, GA, things didn't go Greenville's way as they were swept by the GreenJackets (15-11).

Both seven inning contests lacked an offensive explosion, as just five total runs were scored between the two teams. But the GreenJackets put together just enough offense to take game one by a 3-1 score, and then capture a 1-0 shutout in the nightcap at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

In game one, the Drive scored first, taking advantage of a pair of walks issued to Zach Gentile and Kenneth Roque to begin the third inning. Two batters later, Derrik Gibson delivered an RBI-single. But it would be the final run Greenville scored in the final 11 innings.

That's because starting pitcher Jorge Bucardo (1-2), along with relievers Chris Goor and Jason Jarvis limited the Drive to just four more hits in game one's last four innings.

The GreenJackets answered in the fourth with a pair of runs off Ryan Pressly (0-2), one of which was unearned as Evan Crawford led off the inning by reaching on a fielding error on Jeremy Hazelbaker. Chris Dominquez's one-out, RBI-double in the sixth added an insurance run.

In the second game, Augusta scored in their very first at bat against Yeiper Castillo (1-2) but that was the game's only run. Both Castillo and the GreenJackets' BJ Salsbury (3-2) tossed complete games.

Castillo scattered four hits after getting through the first inning, while totaling eight strikeouts. However, Salsbury was just slightly better, allowing only a leadoff single to Reymond Fuentes before retiring the next 21 batters.

The Drive and GreenJackets continue their four-game series tomorrow, with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Greenville will look to right-hander Kendal Volz (3-0, 2.74 ERA) to get back on the winning track, while Augusta counters with right-hander Zack Wheeler (0-2, 6.23 ERA).

Although the Drive do not return home to Fluor Field until Wednesday, May 12, there will be exciting collegiate baseball at the ballpark on May 11th with Furman versus Clemson.
