Bees Win Back-and-Forth Affair with 15-Hit Attack

SALT LAKE CITY - Cory Aldridge doubled twice and drove in four runs and Hank Conger doubled and homered as the Salt Lake Bees pounded out 15 hits to beat the Portland Beavers 10-5 at Spring Mobile Ballpark on Sunday.

Six Bees (11-11) had at least two hits, including Kevin Frandsen with three and Terry Evans, Michael Ryan and Gary Patchett with two each. Ryan also scored three runs.

Chris Denorfia and Craig Cooper had a pair of hits, Mike Baxter hit a two-run triple and Aaron Cunningham blasted his second home run for Portland (10-13), who dropped the last three games of the series after winning the opener Friday night.

Francisco Rodriguez (2-1) earned the win despite allowing three runs in two innings of work.

The Beavers came back from 2-0 and 4-2 deficits to take a 5-4 lead in the seventh but Adam Russell (0-2) could not protect the advantage, allowing four runs on three hits and three walks in 2/3 of an inning.

With the Bees up 1-0 in the second, Conger ripped a line-drive homer to right off Beavers starter Josh Geer.

Cunningham put the Beavers on the board with a solo shot in the fourth and Cooper doubled and scored in the sixth to tie the game.

The Bees chased Geer in the bottom of the sixth, using doubles by Ryan, Aldridge and Conger to plate two runs and take a 4-2 lead.

In the seventh, Baxter re-tied the game with a two-out, two-run triple to right-center that scored Craig Stansberry and Sean Kazmar. Cooper's RBI single through the hole at short gave the Beavers their first lead of the afternoon.

The lead was short-lived, however, as Russell gave up four runs in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, the Bees strung singles together by Frandsen, Ryan and Aldridge, the last of which tied the game. Following a strikeout, Russell walked Conger to load the bases before forcing in runs with a walk to Peter Bourjos, a hit batter (Patchett) and a walk to Nate Sutton.

Aldridge hit another double in the ninth to give the Bees two more insurance runs.

Trevor Bell gave Salt Lake a solid effort, with two runs on five hits over six innings.

Geer allowed four runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 frames.

The Beavers return to Portland Monday night to host the Tacoma Rainiers at 7:05 p.m. (Pacific).

NOTES: The 15 hits were the most the Beavers have given up all season ... Geer's 10 hits are a single-game high by a Portland pitcher ... Christian Colonel committed his league-leading 10th error for Portland.
