Peoria, IL - Peoria right-hander Nick Struck did not allow a hit over 5.0 innings and nature helped his cause as the Chiefs handed the Clinton LumberKings a 4-0 loss at O'Brien Field on Friday night.

Struck (W, 2-2) put only one runner on base, walking James Jones with one out in the second inning. Jones was picked off of first, and no-one else managed to reach before the skies opened up.

The Chiefs plated four runs on right-hander Erasmo Ramirez (L, 0-1) in his first U.S. start. Logan Watkins beat out an infield single to score Jonathan Mota with two outs in the third inning, and home runs by Greg Rohan (solo) and Richard Jones (two-run) pushed the lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning.

With Peoria heading to the plate in the bottom of the fifth, a brief but heavy storm sent both teams to the dugouts. The combination of rain and the inability of the O'Brien Field grounds crew to get the tarp across third base forced umpires Ryan Goodman and Nick Mahrley to rule the field unplayable after a delay of approximately an hour and a half.

Struck's no-hitter marks the first of any kind against a Clinton club since 1996, when Burlington's Jason Grote tossed a nine-inning no-hitter on August 5 at Riverview Stadium. The Midwest League does count five-inning no-hitters on their all-time list.

The LumberKings (10-12) continue the series against the Peoria Chiefs (14-8) at O"Brien Field tomorrow night. Left-hander Anthony Vasquez (0-2, 1.25) is scheduled to make his fifth start, first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
