Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
LANSING, Mich. - The TinCaps exploded for an eight-run 8th inning on their way to a 10-4 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts, Friday at Cooley Stadium. Every hitter in the lineup had a base hit and RHP Robert Poutier picked up the win in his TinCaps debut.
With the TinCaps trailing 1-0, Dean Anna blasted the first pitch of the 3rd inning over the rightcenter field wall to tie the game. Later in the frame, Everett Williams and Edinson Rincon ripped back-to-back doubles to put Fort Wayne ahead, 2-1.
Lansing rallied in the 6th against LHP Nick Greenwood. Ryan Schimpf sliced a two-run double into the left-field corner to vault the Lugnuts into the lead, 3-2. Balbino Fuenmayor drove in another run with a single to make it 4-2, but RHP Miles Mikolas induced a double play to limit the damage.
In the 8th, Fort Wayne erupted for its biggest offensive inning of the season. After Williams was hit by a Dustin Antolin pitch, Rincon doubled off the center-field wall. Nate Freiman's infield single drove in a run to make it 4-3. After a strikeout, Jon Alia hit a bloop RBI single to right to tie the game at 4-4. RHP Brian Slover was summoned from the Lansing bullpen and, after uncorking a wild pitch, allowed a two-run double into the right-field corner by Rymer Liriano to put Fort Wayne ahead, 6-4. Anna lined an RBI single to left and, three batters later, Williams poked a bases-loaded single into center to drive home a pair and make it 9-4. Rincon's RBI groundout finished the scoring.
The TinCaps bullpen held Lansing scoreless the rest of the way. Poutier (1-0) worked a perfect 7th to notch the win, RHP Hayden Beard fired a scoreless 8th and LHP Jeff Ibarra closed it out with a scoreless 9th inning.
Antolin (1-1) was the losing pitcher, allowing four runs in one-third of an inning. Fort Wayne won has won three of its last four and improved to 11-10 on the season. Lansing dropped to 9-12.
The TinCaps and Lugnuts (Class-A Toronto Blue Jays) continue the series Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Fort Wayne RHP Jerry Sullivan (1-0) takes the ball against Lansing LHP Evan Crawford (0-1).
