Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - Down 4-2 entering the eighth inning, the Fort Wayne TinCaps (11-10) exploded for eight runs and a 10-4 triumph over the Lansing Lugnuts (13-9) in the opener of a four-game series at Cooley Law School Stadium.
The Lugnuts lost their second straight contest after a six-game winning streak, remaining at 999 wins in the franchise's 15-year history.
Facing reliever Dustin Antolin (1-1) in the eighth, Fort Wayne received RBI singles by Nate Freiman and Jon Alia to tie the score at 4-4. Brian Slover took over for Antolin and promptly served up a tie-breaking two-run double to Rymer Liriano.
Dean Anna singled in Liriano for a 7-4 lead, and infield singles by Bo Davis and Jeudy Valdez loaded the bases. Everett Williams followed with a two-run single into center field and Edinson Rincon capped off the rally with a run-scoring groundout.
In all, the TinCaps collected eight hits in the inning, as many as the Lugnuts compiled all game. Every member of the 'Caps lineup save for Jason Hagerty scored a run.
Robert Poutier (1-0) earned the victory for Fort Wayne in his 2010 Midwest League debut, pitching a perfect seventh inning.
For the Lugnuts in defeat, designated hitter Ryan Schimpf supplied a two-run double and drew three walks while catcher Sean Ochinko went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
The Lugnuts will go for their 1,000th win again on Saturday night at Cooley Law School Stadium, with LAFCU fireworks following the 7:05 p.m. game. Lansing will start left-hander Evan Crawford (0-1, 3.73) against Fort Wayne right-hander Jerry Sullivan (1-0, 3.66).
