Ivan Contreras Joins Kernels from Rancho Cucamonga

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that Ivan Contreras will join the Kernels from Rancho Cucamonga. Abe Flores, Director of Player Development for the LA Angels, announced the move on Friday.Contreras was signed by the Angels as a non-drafted free agent on May 24, 2005 and is a native of Santo Domingo, DR. He played 22 games in Cedar Rapids in 2008 with a .189 average, 2 HR and 5 RBI. He spent 2009 at double-A Arkansas where in 54 games, he hit .261 with 9 RBI.
Contreras arrives in Cedar Rapids today and will be in uniform for tonight's 6:35 pm game with Kane County.
To make room on the Kernels active roster, the Angels have assigned INF Michael Wing to extended Spring Training in Tempe AZ. The Kernels roster stands at the MWL maximum of 25 active players with no one on the disabled list.
The Kernels continue a seven game tonight with a 6:35 pm game against the Kane County Cougars here at Perfect Game Field. Tickets may be purchased on-line at www.kernels.com, or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560. Ticket office hours are 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday.
