Drive Complete Improbable Comeback Versus Legends

April 26, 2010 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - It was an improbable comeback for the Drive (12-7) on Monday night, who found themselves down 6-0, while tallying only one hit during that span. But when Jose Cisnero exited to start the top of the seventh, that's when things fell apart for the Legends.

The Drive scored a run in the seventh, and scored seven more in the bottom of the eighth en route to an 8-6 victory in front of 5,586 fans at Fluor Field. With the win, coupled with losses by the Augusta GreenJackets and Savannah Sand Gnats, the Drive moved into a three-way tie atop the South Atlantic League Southern Division standings.

Ronald Bermudez more than made up for his second inning error, when he dropped a routine fly ball, that led to four unearned runs in his final at bat. The leftfielder belted a 2-2 offering from Jose Cisnero to pull the Drive within two runs in the eighth.

Following a walk by Zach Gentile, Kenneth Roque sent a first pitch fastball from Mike Schurz over the wall in right-centerfield, tying the game at 6-6. Roque had entered the game with a .116 batting average, before recording a two-hit performance.

With the Legends bullpen reeling, Greenville continued their rally. The speedy Wilfred Pichardo beat out a groundball hit to first base, and then moved into scoring position with his sixth stolen base of the season. After a bloop single by Derrik Gibson, Chris McGuiness' groundout put the Drive up by a run.

Gibson, then added an insurance run by swiping third for his second stolen base of the season, and then scoring on a wild pitch.

That was all Cesar Cabral needed in picking up his second save of the season. The Drive's fourth pitcher of the game retired Lexington in order to secure the victory.

Despite allowing six runs, the Drive pitching staff turned in a very impressive performance as only one of the runs was earned. Dennis Neuman stopped the early hemorrhaging as he allowed one run in 4.0 innings.

In picking up the victory, Jordan Flasher (2-0) surrendered just one hit in 2.0 shutout innings.

The Drive will look to sweep away the Legends as the two teams conclude their four-game series on Tuesday, with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Ryan Pressly (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will head to the hill for Greenville, as Lexington counters with right-hander Brandt Walker (1-1, 7.30 ERA).

It's also "BI-LO Tasty Tuesday" at the ballpark, in which kids 12 and under will receive a voucher upon entrance to Fluor Field for a free hot dog, bag of Lay's potato chips, and a 12-ounce Pepsi product. In addition, fans who present a KRAFT Singles package wrapper at the box office will receive a free ticket when they purchase a ticket.
