Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - Chris Jones coaxed a game-ending groundout from pinch-hitter Sean Ochinko with the potential tying runs in scoring position, preserving a 6-4 Lake County Captains (8-0) victory over the Lansing Lugnuts (3-5) on Thursday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
A crowd of 10,152 watched the game, which featured a three-run inside-the-park home run from Captains center fielder Bo Greenwell in addition to the final dramatics.
Gardner went 2-for-5 with five RBIs, notching a run-scoring groundout in the first inning, the hustling roundtripper in the third, and a tie-breaking RBI base hit in the sixth off of Lugnuts reliever Nestor Molina (1-1).
Francisco Jimenez (3-0) picked up the win, recording 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Lake County starter Danny Salazar.
He was followed to the mound by Jones, who set down the first seven batters he faced before consecutive one-out singles by Karim Turkamani and Kenny Wilson made matters interesting in the bottom of the ninth. Ochinko's comebacker to the mound secured the first save of the season for the Captains left-hander.
In the losing cause, Lugnuts shortstop Ryan Goins went 3-for-4 and right fielder Brad Glenn cracked his second home run of the year.
Lansing sends right-hander Chad Jenkins (0-0, 5.40) to the mound on Friday night at Cooley Law School Stadium, battling Lake County right-hander Austin Adams (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
