Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release

FORT WAYNE, Indiana - Will Conroy tallied his fifth career D-League triple-double, scoring 13 points with 15 assists and 13 rebounds in his return to the Rio Grande Valley line-up as he helped a short- handed Vipers squad to a 118-101 victory over the Fort Wayne Mad Ants Tuesday night at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Conroy's triple-double is the second ever in Vipers history. With the win the Vipers improve to 23-8, the loss drops the Mad Ants to 10-18.

The Vipers were playing without starting center Julian Sensley and newly acquired forward Russell Carter and were also plying without starting wing Garrett Temple who was called up Monday by the Houston Rockets. The Vipers struggled in the early moments of the game. The Mad Ants pushed their first quarter lead to 10 after going on a 10-1 run capped off by Jared Reiner's jumper at the 8:07 mark to make the score 15-5. The Vipers tied the game for the first time with 2:01 remaining in the quarter, finishing a 9-0 run on a Mike Harris jumper tying the score at 24. The Vipers trailed after the first 28-26.

The Vipers gained the lead for the first time in the second quarter after a 13-3 run put them up 41-35 with 7:25 remaining in the half. The Mad Ants were able to re-claim the lead late in the second after a 7-0 run and led 50-47 with 3:14 left in the half. Conroy hit a three- point bucket to re-claim the lead for the Vipers at 52-51. Conroy's jumper was the spark that began a 10-2 run to close out the half to give the Vipers a 59-53 lead at the half, a lead they would not relinquish.

Fort Wayne would get within five points of RGV with 5:20 remaining in the third on a Ron Howard jumper to make the score 73-68. Rio Grande Valley closed out the third on a 13-4 run and took an 86-72 lead into the final period. The Vipers would push the lead to as many as 19 points in the second half before notching the 17-point victory.

Harris once again led the Vipers in scoring 33 points on 14-25 shooting while hauling in six rebounds. Antonio Anderson was the spark for the Vipers end of first quarter rally and he finished with 23 points with five assists and four boards. Craig Winder scored 20 off the bench for RGV, while Stan Asumnu scored 10 and finished a rebound shy of a double-double. Jonathan Wallace scored 11 to round out the double-digit scorers for RGV. Conroy's 15 assists equaled the assist output for the entire Ft. Wayne club.

Milwaukee Bucks assignee Joe Alexander scored 16 of his 23 points in the second half to lead the scoring output for the Mad Ants. Rob Kurz scored 18 and Jared Reiner added 10 points with each bringing down seven boards. Ron Howard scored 14 in his return to the Ft. Wayne line- up while Oliver Lafayette scored 12 with six assists.

The Vipers are scheduled to face the Springfield Armor on Wednesday night at the MassMutual Center for a 7:00 PM EST tip-off. It will be RGV's only scheduled trip to Springfield this season.
