Iowa Wolves News Release

DES MOINES, IA, Feb. 9, 2010 - Othyus Jeffers scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Iowa Energy defeated the Erie BayHawks 85-82 Tuesday night in Des Moines.

The two teams, playing each other for fourth time in a week, struggled to find much rhythm in a game that saw both teams shoot below 40% from the field. Erie opened the game by jumping out to a 21-12 at the end of the 1st quarter as Ivan Harris scored 9 points and John Bryant added 6 for the visitors. The Energy responded by outscoring Erie 31-18 in the 2nd as center Courtney Sims scored 12 points in the quarter, giving Iowa a four point halftime lead.

A 9-0 run by Erie early in the 3rd quarter fueled by a pair of Jackie Manuel buckets gave the BayHawks a 54-51 lead. The see-saw battle continued as Iowa responded with an immediate 10-3 run of their own to regain control. As you may expect, it was now Erie's turn to respond, and that they did. The BayHawks scored the next nine points of the game to open up a 66-61 lead early in the 4th quarter.

Down by five, Iowa turned to Jeffers and Cartier Martin, who combined to score nine straight for Iowa to give them a 70-66 lead they would not relinquish.

Erie did have one final chance in the game, as they were down by three with :29 left. A Cliff Clinkscales jump shot missed and Iowa's Curtis Stinson found Shyron Ely for an alley-oop dunk in the game's final seconds to secure the win.

Iowa improves to a league best 26-6 on the year while Erie falls to 10-18.

The BayHawks were led by John Bryant, who finished with 18 points while Mike Gansey registered 12 points and a game high 15 rebounds.

The Energy will have some time off as they head on All-Star break before traveling to Los Angeles for a game on Tuesday, February 16th. Iowa returns home on Tuesday, February 23rd vs. Reno. For tickets to all Energy home games, call 564-8550 or visit www.iowanba.com.
