Paulson Praises Soccer Fans, City Council For Final Approval of MLS to Portland

Portland Timbers News Release

The Portland City Council today gave final approval to a plan to renovate PGE Park to bring Major League Soccer to Portland in 2011. Following the council vote, Portland Timbers owner Merritt Paulson made the following statement:

"This is a great day for Portland and a great day for soccer," Paulson said. "I thank our fans for their support and the city council for its leadership. Now, we look forward to showing the rest of the country why we are Soccer City USA."

Last week, the city council conducted its final public hearing on the proposal.
