Kansas City Wizards Announce 2010 MLS Schedule
February 3, 2010 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Sporting Kansas City News Release
The Kansas City Wizards today announced their 30-game schedule for the 2010 Major League Soccer season. Kansas City, a charter member of Major League Soccer, will play its 15th season in 2010. The Wizards will begin the 2010 campaign with a home match on Saturday, March 27 at 7:30 p.m. CT against D.C. United at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Single-game tickets go on sale February 25th via all Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster.com and over the phone at 1-800-745-3000.
Highlights of the 2010 schedule include a trio of games on national television near the start of the season. The Wizards will appear on Fox Soccer Channel (FSC) on Saturday, May 1st, when they take on the Houston Dynamo at Robertson Stadium, before traveling to RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. to take on D.C. United that Wednesday on ESPN2's "MLS Game Of The Week." The Wizards' next match, at home against the Chicago Fire on May 15th, will also be broadcast on FSC. Former Wizards standouts Mo Johnston and Preki will return to Kansas City Saturday, July 31 as Toronto FC comes to town. Johnston is now the Manager of TFC, while Preki will serve as Toronto's Head Coach.
Kansas City's 2010 schedule is also marked by balance. The Wizards will never play more than two games in a row at home and only play more than two consecutive road games once: a three game trip that starts at Columbus on Wednesday, July 14th, continues with a visit to the Colorado Rapids on July 17th, and concludes in the windy city against the Chicago Fire on July 24th.
Thirteen of the 15 matches the Wizards will play at CommunityAmerica Ballpark will take place on Saturday evenings. The team will also have one home game on a Sunday and one on a Thursday. The Wizards will play every MLS team once at home and once on the road in the League's first-ever completely balanced schedule. MLS now contains 16 teams with the addition of the Philadelphia Union in 2010.
The Wizards' schedule includes a two-week MLS-wide break for the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The stoppage in play begins with the World Cup's opening match on June 11th, and continues until the end of group play on June 25th. Kansas City's last game before the break is June 10th at home against Philadelphia Union, which will also be the expansion team's first visit to Kansas City. The Wizards will return to action following the World Cup break at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on June 26th when they take on the New York Red Bulls.
For season tickets and group sales, please contact the Wizards' ticket office toll-free at 1-888-4KC-GOAL, or visit www.kcwizards.com. Fans who renew their season tickets or purchase new season-ticket packages will retain an early priority number that will determine seat locations in Kansas City's new stadium, which was approved Jan. 19, 2010.
