February 3, 2010 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON, TX (Wednesday, February 3, 2010) -- Major League Soccer released its 2010 schedule Wednesday afternoon, including the Houston Dynamo's regular season schedule for its fifth season in Houston, which will be highlighted by the 2010 MLS All-Star Game at Reliant Stadium.
The MLS schedule is a completely balanced schedule, with all 16 teams playing each of their 15 opponents twice for a 30-game total. The league will break during the group stage, semifinals, and finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, with no games scheduled between June 10 and June 25.
The Dynamo open with a road game at intrastate rival FC Dallas on Saturday, March 27, in the first of two games to decide El Capitán, a Civil War-era howitzer presented to the winner of the season series between Houston and Dallas. Houston opens at home on Thursday, April 1, hosting defending MLS Cup champion Real Salt Lake on ESPN2, kicking off at 8 p.m. It is the second consecutive year the Dynamo's MLS home opener comes against the defending MLS Cup champion. The Dynamo then play five of their next six games at home, including clashes with conference rivals Los Angeles, Chivas USA, and Dallas.
In other notable matches, Houston will host the expansion Philadelphia Union for the first time on May 29 and will host two-time defending Supporters' Shield winner Columbus on July 10. The Dynamo will close the regular season by hosting the Seattle Sounders, with whom the Dynamo shared five dramatic games last year, on Saturday, October 23.
Houston will also host the 2010 MLS All-Star Game, featuring the MLS All-Stars against an opponent to be announced. The date is also to be announced. Tickets are available in Dynamo season ticket packages, on sale now at HoustonDynamo.com or by calling (713) 276-7500. Due to the schedule release, a $50 online discount has been extended for one week, through Feb. 10, and is available at HoustonDynamo.com/tickets.
The Houston Dynamo are a Major League Soccer franchise that has won two MLS Cup championships in its first four seasons and represented the United States in four consecutive regional championships. For more information, log on to www.HoustonDynamo.com or call (713) 276-7500.
