
Uher's First Wins It For Chiefs

Dominik Uher's first career goal at 16:27 of the third period broke a 2-2 with the Seattle Thunderbirds and helped the Spokane Chiefs to a 4-2 win on Friday night in the Arena. A Kyle Beach empty netter, his second goal of the night, with 14-seconds remaining was the final tally for Spokane's 17th win of the year.
The Chiefs have won three in a row overall and earned a point in their last five games. They will go into Sunday's game at Portland trailing the Winterhawks by two points, with four games in hand, for second place in the U.S. Division. Spokane trails Tri-City, 7-0 winners at Kamloops on Friday night, by four points.
Spokane never trailed, but lead twice at 1-0 and 2-1 and each time Seattle came back to even the score. The game winner was set up by Steve Kuhn, who took the puck away on the backboards from Seattle's goaltender Calvin Pickard, and slid it into the slot to Uher who one-timed it home from the left circle.
Jared Spurgeon, who had a goal and two helpers, scored the game's first goal when Mitch Wahl the 20-year-old defenseman from behind the net. Spurgeon backhanded it high at 9:43 of the first period. Seattle scored their only goal of the first at 16:52.
The second period was scoreless and it took only 47-seconds of the third for Kyle Beach to score his 20th of the year on a snap shot from the slot. The power play goal was assisted by Stefan Ulmer and Spurgeon. Seattle tied it again at 5:51 setting up the game winner for Uher and the Chiefs.
The Chiefs were 1-4 on the power play, 2-3 on the penalty kill and outshot Seattle 33-23. James Reid won his 15th game of the season.
Spokane will take Saturday off before they travel to Portland for a Sunday night affair with the Winterhawks at 5:00. Mike Boyle will go on the air at 4:30 with Comcast Hockey Tonight on 1510 KGA.
The Chiefs will return home on Tuesday night for Ugly Holiday Sweater Night presented by K102.
The Teddy Bear Toss presented by The Spokesman-Review Christmas Fund is Saturday, December 12th versus the Chilliwack Bruins.
