Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley announced today that the team has re-signed defenseman Chris Brooks while also signing Brett Parnham to an Amatuer Tryout Agreement.

Parnham, 20, joins the Grizzlies from the OHL's Oshawa Generals where last year he finished second in the league in goals with 50, behind New York Islanders 2009 first-overall draft pick John Tavares. He tallied 76 points total in 65 games while also serving as the team's captain. He completed last year by skating in seven games with the AHL's Rochester Americans.

Brooks, 27, joins the Grizzlies for the 2009-2010 season after playing in 11 games, tallying one assist and 20 penalty minutes last year for Utah after being acquired in a trade on March 12, 2009 for current Utah forward Evan Kotsopoulos. Brooks enters his fourth-year pro after playing college hockey at Yale University.

Both players will be in action when the Grizzlies return to the E-Center Friday, Saturday and Sunday (4:05 p.m.) to host Las Vegas.

Utah is in their fifth season in the ECHL and their third-straight campaign as an affiliate of the New York Islanders. On September 16, 2009 the Grizzlies announced that they will also be adding up to four prospects this season from the Calgary Flames. Head Coach Kevin Colley returns to the Utah bench this upcoming season after signing a multi-year contract extension on April 20, 2009. Colley, who at the age of 30 is the youngest coach in the ECHL, led the Grizzlies to the playoffs for the third time in four years during his rookie head coaching campaign.
