Wheeling Nailers News Release

Wheeling, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the proud AA affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced that defenseman Mitch Ganzak has been called up to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL.

Ganzak, 25, has posted 10 points (1-9-10) in 13 games with the Nailers, placing him third on the team at the time of his recall. He scored the overtime game-winner against the Johnstown Chiefs in a 5-4 thriller on Saturday, November 8th at WesBanco Arena.

He appeared in 64 games with the Nailers last season, reaching the 40-point plateau including 33 assists and achieving a plus-minus rating of plus-13, tied for second on the team. He also appeared in three AHL contests with Norfolk and Albany on loan.

Ganzak was one of four Nailers named to the ECHL All-Rookie team and his performance earned him a contract with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

The 5-11, 200-pound blueliner from Redford, Michigan, appeared in 153 games in four years at Miami University of Ohio (NCAA), recording 101 points (9+92) and 203 penalty minutes with the Redhawks.

Mitch Ganzak is the fifth Wheeling Nailer called up to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season joining Lane Caffaro, Joey Haddad, Alex Grant and T.J. Fox.

The Wheeling Nailers next action is this weekend with a pair of games Friday and Saturday nights at the Elmira Jackals. The Nailers next home game is Wednesday, November 25th against the Florida Everblades with 2-for-1 ticket offers courtesy of WesBanco, $1 beer night and West Virginia University Appreciation Night.
